Our Rector: The Rev. Tyler Jones
The Rev. Tyler Jones came to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church from Germany in 2006, having served for two years in Munich as Curate at the Church of the Ascension, an Episcopal Church in the Convocation of American Churches in Europe. The convocation is the European equivalent of a diocese.
Pastor Tyler and his wife, Molly, were not strangers to Poughkeepsie when they arrived. During 2001 when Tyler was enrolled at The General Theological Seminary in New York City, he and Molly spent time with Tyler’s sister who was teaching at Vassar on a fellowship, and later at Bard and were taken by the beauty of the Hudson River Valley. When his time in Germany was drawing to a close, Tyler listed this area as one in which he and Molly would like to live.
Before Pastor Tyler’s call to ordained ministry, he and Molly lived in Alaska — where they met, married and raised two children — and then in Pensacola, Fla., where Tyler was working in the maritime field. They moved from Pensacola to Miami and it was in Miami, attending Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, where Tyler first heard God’s call to ordained ministry.
Pastor Tyler is the past President of the Dutchess County Interfaith Council, the 40 year-old local organization that brings together congregations from a wide variety of the faith traditions found in our county. Active in diocesan affairs in the Episcopal Diocese of New York, Pastor Tyler has been elected to serve on the Diocesan Council and the Mid-Hudson Board of Managers and has been appointed to the Commission on Ministry and the Congregational Development Commission. Currently he serves a Dean of the Dutchess County Clericus made up of ordained clergy in the Episcopal Church in the area.
